Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about using this free online morse code translator.

What standard rules are used for Morse code timing? ▾
According to International Telecommunication Union (ITU) standards: a dash (`-`) is equal to 3 dots (`.`); the space between elements in the same letter is 1 dot; space between letters is 3 dots; and space between words is 7 dots (or a forward slash `/`).
Does this translator support numbers and punctuation? ▾
Yes. Numbers 0–9 and common punctuation symbols (periods, commas, question marks, slashes, and hyphens) are fully supported using international standards.
How should I separate words when decoding Morse to text? ▾
Separate individual letters with single spaces and separate distinct words with three spaces or a forward slash (`/`).
How is the audio tone generated? ▾
The audio tone is synthesized client-side using the browser Web Audio API oscillator with smoothed attack and decay envelopes to eliminate clicking noises.
