Ping Test

Ping a host or IP from the server to check reachability
This free online ping test runs in your browser and is part of our Developer Tools collection.

Ping Test

Quickly check reachability to common hosts. Uses server-side ping; results depend on server environment.

Notes

  • Server executes the ping command; output depends on server OS and permissions.
  • Custom hostnames are validated; only common host/IP characters allowed.
  • Use presets for quick tests.

How to Use the Online Ping Test

1 Enter Hostname or IP

Type the website or IP address you want to ping (e.g. `8.8.8.8` or `cloudflare.com`).

2 Select Packet Count

Choose how many ICMP echo request probe packets to transmit (e.g. 4 or 10 packets).

3 Execute Server-Side Ping

Click "Start Ping" to initiate ICMP echo requests from the server to the destination.

4 Review RTT Statistics & Packet Loss

Inspect round-trip time (RTT) minimum, average, maximum latency in milliseconds, and packet loss percentage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about using this free online ping test.

What does Ping measure? โ–พ
Ping measures the network round-trip time (RTT)โ€”the time in milliseconds it takes for a data packet to travel from the source host to the destination and for the echo reply to return.
What is considered a good ping latency for web browsing and gaming? โ–พ
Under 30ms is considered excellent; 30โ€“60ms is very good; 60โ€“100ms is acceptable for general browsing. Latency exceeding 150โ€“200ms causes noticeable lag in video calls and competitive gaming.
What causes 100% packet loss if a website is loading fine in my browser? โ–พ
Many modern firewalls and cloud CDNs (including Cloudflare) intentionally block ICMP Echo Requests (Type 8) to mitigate DDoS attacks while allowing standard HTTP/HTTPS web traffic through on port 80/443.
How does this test differ from the Client Ping tool? โ–พ
This tool executes from our cloud server infrastructure to measure backbone connectivity. The Client Ping tool measures latency directly from your personal web browser.
